Panayiotis Neufeld (pictured in the background, left), founder of the Cultural Left and its productive branch, the Creative Left , presented in detail to representatives of professional, sectoral and labour organisations affiliated with the Party of the European Left, the Cultural Left’s positions on:

• The role played by the arts and cultural sectors in contemporary societies and the ways in which they positively influence communities, strengthening social cohesion.

• The economic contribution of the cultural and creative sectors to each country’s Gross National Product (GNP), illustrated through specific examples, as well as the wider economic impact generated across fields such as industry, agricultural development, trade, small and medium-sized enterprises, tourism, education and the mass media.

• Specialised models of cultural policy, cultural economics and cultural management, together with the ways in which the regulatory and legal framework governing culture and the arts affects the efficient functioning of the full spectrum of professional and employment sectors within a country.

Following the presentation, Panayiotis Neufeld provided comprehensive responses to all questions submitted by participants, following their thematic categorisation.

About the Forum

The Party of the European Left, the Greens and other progressive political forces convened the 2nd European Forum of Progressive, Ecological and Left Forces in Bilbao, Spain, from 9 to 11 November 2018.

Building upon the dialogue initiated at a previous meeting in Marseille, the Forum brought together more than 700 representatives of political parties (including the Party of the European Left), trade unions and social movements, with the aim of building a broad alliance against neoliberal policies and the rise of the far right.
